Hello, Friend...

It would seem you've stumbled upon the hot mess that is my character development backup. Though I rather regret making a mess of such a lovely username - which happened to be my username on 8tracks as well, before they imposed draconian weekly listening limits - I will eventually do a bit more with this journal. Or, at the very least, I hope to organize it a bit before leaving it as a dumping grounds for posts.

Now, if only dreamwidth importing actually updated posts that have been edited since original import... I have my hopes it'll happen someday, given how reliable the site's staff are with technical issues. Fingers crossed it'll be sometime before insanejournal kicks the bucket.

Pardon the broken layout. I still need to update it to work right on DW!

Fix Broken Style Imports

Some imported styles from insanejournal -- such as Bloggish from this tutorial -- rely upon assets from non-secure pages. This isn't an issue half the time you're browsing dreamwidth, but occasionally blogs are displayed through https... which means those assets flat out cannot be imported and your theme breaks.

Luckily, there's an easy fix, as I went and made a quick and dirty tumblr theme for myself that uses the base-weblog style so that I wouldn't be breaking the TOS by uploading the asset to tumblr. Here's how to fix those broken styles using that .css file:

That's it, you're done!

Fixing IJ Layout Images on Dreamwidth

If you've installed a layout meant for IJ onto DW, this is necessary to make the layout appear properly. It feels like a lot of work, but in the end it's not really that much.

Start by searching for one of the "find this" versions. If you find it, great! If not, skip to the next table and try one from it. Unfortunately, there's several different methods used and I'm only familiar with two of them. The same principle applies to layouts from livejournal, but will be more manual. Since those are so rare, I'm not including those in the guide.

Simpler DW Profile Code

Still needs photoshop, but with way less effort than the prettier one.

Take profile image and resize to width of 500px. Sharpen adequately.
Increase canvas relatively by 12px, fill a transparent layer with inner colour.
Increase canvas relatively by 16px, fill a transparent layer with outer colour.
Save and upload somewhere.

Not as fancy, but less effort required. )

Using "Is This It?" by ~tessisamess on DW {customized}

Since I've decided to use this lovely layout by [insanejournal.com profile] tessisamess as my default RP journal theme on dreamwidth, I've made myself a little guide to installing the version I customized. This is for my personal use, but left unlocked so that I can refer to it while logged into new journals and such.

Installing Complete Style from IJ
  • Go to Your Layers.
  • Under create top-level layer, select type: layout and version: 1 then choose create.
  • Click Edit next to the newly-created layer.
  • Delete what appears in the editor and replace it with the following (Complete Style from insanejournal, fixed to support reading pages):
  • Click Save & Compile, at the very top.
  • Wait a moment for it to finish, then click Back to layers list beside it.
  • Go to Customize and choose Your Custom Layers. Select Apply Theme under the one labelled Complete Style
  • Go to Customize Your Theme and fill out according to the guide below.

Click for the rest. )

DW-Compatible Navigation with Profile Template Workaround

original code )To do the profile workaround, screenshot a preview and then chop it up in photoshop. Since this is primarily made for myself, I'm not in the mood to explain how. Transfer the coding and links and all that other stuff, which will be a bitch and a half and more effort than it's worth (yet necessary to get the pretty layout in place), and then put the code in place. Whee.workaround code )

Meta: Jo's Paper Journal

Player's Notes

The contents tagged *ua: journal are for the psl at [insanejournal.com profile] underworldangel, and are posted here because rather than a blog or social thing this is Jo's private, pen-and-paper journal. Should it ever become compromised by another character in-game, then there's an actual reference as to some of the contents. Shiny, right?

Below is the outside of her journal, and the title page can be found here. On the final four or so pages are rough sketches of various sigils, contact numbers, and names - none of which are obviously related to one another. For relevant notes in the back pages, see the *ua: journal extras tag. (It is to be assumed that the journal has some form of strap to keep it closed.)
